Releasing Hy-Brid Brakes

It has been brought to our attention that there are some technicians, drivers, and customers that are not familiar with how to release the brakes on Hy-Brid Lifts. Because we are using electric drive motors and our design is somewhat unique to what you may be used to, this procedure is about as simple as it gets. The following procedure is for all HB-1430 units & HB-1030 units built after serial number 052768.

The Hy-Brid gets its name because we use regenerative braking drive motors. What this means is that the motors basically turn into generators to cause resistance to slow the machine down. The brake on the drive motor only applies after the machine is stopped, to hold it in place while being parked.

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO PUSH OR TOW THE UNIT WITH THE BRAKES APPLIED. SEVERE GEAR DAMAGE WILL OCCUR.

In the event there is a drive malfunction or the battery voltage drops below 17 volts, it is still possible to push the machine by releasing the parking brake.

1. Go to the rear of the machine and locate the rectangular opening in the chassis.
On HB 1430's it is located behind the step.

2. Inside the opening you will see 2 plated steel levers attached to the brakes.

3. Push both levers down towards the floor. This will allow the gear motors to freewheel. To resume normal operation, make sure both levers are up.

Keep in mind that when the levers are down, the drive system will not function. If one or both of the levers are in the down position, you will get a 3-2 fault code from the motor controller.
